A healthy and balanced diet is important for learning, and we offer a range of nutritious school meals to keep our pupils fuelled for the day.
We want to make sure that we are providing your child with the best education and support we can. Healthy school food can help pupils establish healthy habits for life and help to improve pupils’ readiness to learn.
You may be entitled to receive free school meals if you are in receipt of certain benefits or support. You could also raise additional pupil premium funding for your child’s school to fund support like extra tuition, additional teaching staff or after school activities.
What are the different types of FSM, following DfE changes in 26/27?
All children living in households in receipt of Universal Credit will be eligible for Free School Meals, but this will be broken into two categories:
■ Targeted FSM - children in households where parents are on Universal Credit, but they have an annual income of below £7,400k (ie. the old criteria for FSM). They will receive a free school meal, and will also continue to attract, pupil premium.
■ Expanded FSM - all children in a household in receipt of Universal Credit, but with an income above £7,400, will receive a free meal, but NOT attract additional funding beyond the funding for the meal.
What to do
To see if your children can get free school meals (FSM), please follow this link to apply Apply for free school meals | Gloucestershire County Council. If there is any information you cannot find, or you are having problems understanding, contact Mrs Palmer for help.
You only need to complete this application once. Subsequent rechecks of your eligibility will be carried out annually to assess whether you continue to be eligible for free school meals. Should you move your child to a new school, your child’s new school may proactively assess whether you continue to be eligible for free school meals. You should contact the school or local authority if you have a change in financial circumstances.
Pupils are welcome to bring a packed lunch from home. We encourage healthy choices, such as fresh fruit, vegetables, and wholegrain foods, to support their learning and wellbeing throughout the day.
If your child has any dietary requirements or allergies, please inform the school so we can make suitable arrangements. Please be aware of allergies of other pupils and follow and guidance you get from school about what food can be brought in from home.
